Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant
Jubelt’s Bakery & Restaurant has proudly served the community since 1922, when brothers Paul, Fred, and Albert Jubelt purchased an existing bakery in the coal-mining town of Mt. Olive, Illinois. Initially focused on bread production, the business quickly earned a reputation for quality and dedication. Despite challenges from national bread companies during the 1930s, the Jubelts adapted by launching a successful house-to-house bread route. The onset of World War II paused operations, but the family’s entrepreneurial spirit endured. In 1949, Paul’s son John joined the business and helped expand its footprint, opening new locations in Taylorville and, in 1952, downtown Litchfield with his wife, Iris. Over the following decades, additional stores were established in Lincoln, Carlinville, Staunton, Gillespie, and Springfield, while the bakery also supplied independent grocers across the region.
Today, Jubelt’s Bakery & Restaurant remains a cherished part of the Litchfield community, operating from its iconic location on Old Route 66. With deep roots in central Illinois and nearly a century of family tradition, we continue to serve fresh baked goods, hearty meals, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to locals and travelers alike. Our legacy is built on generations of hard work, resilience, and a commitment to quality that has stood the test of time.
