For over 50 years, Mo-Kan Regional Council (Mo-Kan) has served as a designated regional planning commission and economic development district, recognized by the states of Missouri and Kansas as well as the federal government. Representing 36 municipalities across six counties, Mo-Kan provides essential services including community and economic development planning, grant procurement and administration, business loan programs, hazard mitigation, GIS mapping, and homeland security initiatives.
Founded in 1968, Mo-Kan was created to help local governments pool resources for long-range planning and regional collaboration. Over time, its role has expanded to meet a broad range of community and economic needs, resulting in millions of dollars in completed projects that have strengthened local infrastructure, supported businesses, and enhanced the quality of life. Today, Mo-Kan remains a trusted partner in fostering growth, resilience, and opportunity across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.
