The New Mexico Goatheads are a professional hockey team based at the Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Announced on May 2, 2025, the Goatheads proudly became the 31st member of the ECHL — the premier “Double-A” professional hockey league in North America that serves as a key development stage for future NHL stars.

The team will officially hit the ice in October 2026, marking the long-awaited return of professional hockey to New Mexico. As part of the ECHL, the Goatheads will have both NHL and AHL affiliations, ensuring that fans in the Southwest will see hockey’s top prospects compete and develop right here in their home state.
