The Crested Butte Museum was founded in 1993 by dedicated community members who recognized the urgent need to preserve the stories, artifacts, and heritage that define the north end of the Gunnison Valley. For over a decade, the museum moved between locations until 2003, when it found its permanent home in Tony’s Conoco-an iconic local landmark and gathering place. Since then, the museum has flourished as both a cultural cornerstone and a bridge between generations, keeping the region’s vibrant history alive.
Today, the Crested Butte Museum serves as a welcoming hub for sharing history, ideas, and community spirit. Through engaging exhibits, thoughtful programs, and inclusive storytelling, we honor the people and events that shaped our town while continuing to explore the ever-evolving narrative of the Gunnison Valley. History here is not static-it’s living, growing, and forever intertwined with the life of our community.
