At Trees, Water & People, we believe that protecting the environment and supporting communities go hand in hand. Founded in 1998 by foresters Richard Fox and Stuart Conway, our organization began with a mission to combat deforestation in Latin America. Over time, we recognized that meaningful, lasting change requires addressing the root causes driving environmental degradation, such as energy needs, resource scarcity, and economic inequities. For more than 25 years, we have designed and implemented innovative programs that improve lives while restoring ecosystems, with a focus on reducing reliance on wood for cooking, advancing clean energy solutions, and empowering local communities to lead the way in protecting their natural resources.
Our work is guided by the belief that natural resources are best conserved when people directly connected to them are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to steward them sustainably. From our dedicated staff to our global network of partners, we center communities in everything we do, building capacity that ensures long-term resilience and self-reliance. Today, as climate change threatens the well-being of millions, Trees, Water & People remains committed to solutions that honor cultural knowledge, strengthen local leadership, and deliver measurable impact for both people and the planet. Together with the support of individuals and organizations who share our vision, we can create a healthier, more sustainable world for generations to come.
