Platte Canyon University -Noxious Weeds
Description
As we enjoy the longer warmer days up here in Bailey, so too do all the plants around us. Not just our magnificent native trees, shrubs and wildflowers, but also some newer residents: noxious weeds! These aggressive non-native plants, such as musk thistle, common mullein, Canada thistle and cheatgrass, have made Bailey their new home. In the process they are impoverishing our native plant communities and impacting our treasured quality of life. Plus these fast-spreading weeds can weaken forest health and increase wildfire risk.
Don’t despair! With a little help, we can diagnose, treat and keep this weedy onslaught under control. Plan to attend the Platte Canyon University presentation on Noxious Weeds on Wednesday 16th July at Crow Hill Firehouse at 7pm to learn how. Lucy Bauer, PhD ecologist and noxious weed consultant based in Bailey, will give a valuable overview of, and practical advice on, identifying, understanding, and dealing with your noxious weeds.
This event is made possible through the Teller Park Conservation District.
