Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at MCT, Aug 15 & 16

PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT-MCT'S ADULT SHAKESPEARE TRUNK SHOW

Missoula, MT: The Missoula Children's Theatre is emBarding……or rather "embarking" on a new Adult Education program
with the Shakespeare production of Twelfth Night, live on stage for 2 performances Friday and Saturday, August 15 and
16th. Written by William Shakespeare and adapted and directed by Sarah Walker Thornton, this hilarious musical version
will delight fans of Shakespeare and make new fans of his work. One of 14 comedies written by Will (can we call him
Will? He's not around to complain), Twelfth Night is one of the funniest classics and will be a fantastic introduction to
Shakespeare for those not familiar with The Bard (He's still not around to complain).
Sarah Walker Thornton is a seasoned professional actor/director with a BFA in Theatre from Wright State University, an
MFA from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and was co-founder of the NYC-based BAMA Theatre Company. She may be
Will's biggest fan and when asked about this production, she said “Shakespeare in the style of a trunk show really brings
the storytelling into focus. The actors must embrace the language, use their imaginations, and add a dash of theatre
magic to build a ship where there never was a ship before. It's a fun way to take the plays of Shakespeare off their
pedestals and turn a potentially intimidating experience of seeing one of his stories into something playful and joyful
(even the tragedies!). This adaptation stays true to the Bard's words (though trimmed down to around only an hour and
half), and there is a fun folk twist to the music! Twelfth Night has some of Shakespeare's goofiest characters and wild
surprises. We have so much fun that you can't help but have fun with us!”
Ten local actors play multiple roles as they take the audience through a wacky world of servants and masters, twins and
disguises, clowns and fools, heartache and hijinks in Shakespeare's most musical comedy. Using simple storytelling, a
few props and costumes, a handy-dandy box, and lots of imagination, this “trunk show” telling will bring this tale to life
right before your eyes. Some of Shakespeare's most ridiculous characters alongside some of his most beautiful poetry-
this adventure of a sea-voyage turned upside-down and love triangles turned inside out will make you shout, “Play on!”

Twelfth Night is being sponsored by The Rhinoceros-the Rhino as it's best known with performances on Friday, August
15th at 7PM and Saturday, August 16th at 7PM at the Missoula Children's Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and all seats
are reserved! Visit www.MCTinc.org, or call (406) 728-7529, Noon to 5PM, M-F.
